Alexander Unzicker studied physics and law at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich from 1985 and obtained his diploma in physics and the state exams in jurisprudence. In 2001 he promoted neurosciences at the Institute for Medical Psychology of LMU Munich. Unzicker works as a gymnasium teacher in Munich. He has three children. Unzicker is the son of the chess master Wolfgang Unzicker. Between 1983 and 1987 he was in the chess league for the team of the Munich SC 1836 as a substitute player, but came only once in the season 1983/84 to the employment.

Alexander Unzicker studierte ab 1985 Physik und Rechtswissenschaft an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München und erlangte 1993 das Diplom in Physik und das Staatsexamen in Rechtswissenschaft. 2001 promovierte er in Neurowissenschaften am Institut für Medizinische Psychologie der LMU München. Unzicker arbeitet als Gymnasiallehrer in München. Er hat drei Kinder.
Unzicker ist der Sohn des Schachgroßmeisters Wolfgang Unzicker. Zwischen 1983 und 1987 war er in der Schachbundesliga für die Mannschaft des Münchener SC 1836 als Ersatzspieler gemeldet, kam allerdings nur einmal in der Saison 1983/84 zum Einsatz.
